Re:
Hydrodynamic Isolation Tool
Hydrostatic Isolation Tool
I have reviewed your equipment with the specific intention of assessing its ability to isolate piping components or cylinders succesfully. I offer the following comments:
When used correctly this equipment provides superior isolation as compared to conventional means, including two valves in series with the space between open to atmosphere (commonly referred to as a double block and bleed). Furthermore, the equipment does not in any way interfere with the integrity of the permanent piping components as defined by ANSI B31.3 or other wise.
Some additional comments of interest are as follows:
The Isolation provides safeguards not capable with conventional equipment (referred to above) in that the neutral area between the seals can be monitored by visual leak detection of at least one seal and pressure gauge which monitors both seals.
This neutral space between the seals which when pressurized provides a third postive seal.
Refer to PROTECH Report 107302 for further discussion as to the stress effects of rubber seal compression.
