Dear Mr. Hodgins:
Re: CAR-BER Testing Services' Isolation Tool
As per your request, we have evaluated the CAR-BER Testing Services' Isolation Tool as to the requirements of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code, Part 10 section 175.
When used as per CAR-BER Testing Services procedures, by trained personnel, within the tools limitations, the tool provides isolation of the piping system being worked on and monitors any changes to upstream conditions in the system.
This tool meets the intent of section 175 by isolating the system being worked on from the work area. The isolation tool is pressurized between the double block which ensures that the double block is functioning prior to commencing any work; in addition the pressure is constantly monitored ensuring that the double block is not leaking. Upstream line pressure is released through the bleed to a safe area. Constant monitoring by trained personnel warns of any problems with the double block and / or the upstream conditions in the system.
Prior to installation of the isolation tool to facilitate repairs (and before removal of the tool after repairs) the system being worked on must have a primary isolation installed in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code, Part 10 section 175. Any use of the isolation tool must be within the design limits of the system being worked on and within the technical specifications for the tool.
We trust this provides the information you require. Should you have any questions on this information, please contact the undersigned.
